Are you a new to the SMBC Club? - Call our ride leaders for trip info and our officers will be glad to answer any of your questions about cycling and give you suggestions on how to start.
For you first ride - Have your bike in good working order with tires properly filled. The local bike shops can check and "tune up" your bike. Bring your helmet, water, and a spare tube. Dress in layers and be sure to use sunscreen.
The right ride level for you - If you are a new member with limited cycling experience, you'll probably want to start at the "D" level. Check the monthly ride schedule in the newsletter and pick a D ride of about 20 miles or less. Read the description to be sure it matches up with your assessment of your abilities. If you're unsure, call the leader and discuss the ride and your abilities with him/her. We want you to have fun, to gain confidence, and to improve. It may seem hard at first, but don't get discouraged. If you stick with it, you'll surprise yourself with your progress.
Our club is organized and run by a dedicated group of cyclists who love the sport. The board members and ride leaders are all volunteers who devote many hours of their time to the club. Our rides are rated A, B, C, and D which relate to the pace of the ride. If you are a new biker, always start at the D level. The most important part of club riding is not the ride level but just to have a good time.Cruising Speeds: A - 21mph+ B - 17-20 mph C - 13-16 mph D - 10-12mph
