Welcome New Members!

You have made a great decision to Come Ride With Us and we want you to make the most of it. The information below was selected specifically with you in mind.

Please take a few minutes to read “Your First SMBC Ride” and “Important Rules of the SMBC Road” found below, then dive into the videos and the SMBC Club Handbook.

We’re glad you’re here. Let’s keep the rubber side down and enjoy the ride together!

Your First SMBC Ride

Choosing Your Ride

  • Check the Ride Schedule and pick a pace (MPH) that fits your current ability.
  • When in doubt, start slower and shorter than your solo rides. Group riding adds a new dynamic!
  • Contact the ride leader in advance to discuss the route and your experience.
  • Ride consistently—you'll be surprised how quickly your fitness improves.

Pre-Ride Checklist

  • Check Email: Rides may be canceled due to rain or inclement weather.
  • Safety Check: Ensure tires are inflated, brakes work, and handlebar ends are capped.
  • Visibility: Wear bright, high-visibility clothing.
  • Timing: Arrive at least 15 minutes early. We roll promptly at the posted time!

Essential Gear to Bring

  • Properly fitted bike helmet (Mandatory)
  • Water and/or sports drinks
  • Spare tube, tire levers, and pump/CO2
  • Personal ID and insurance cards
  • Basic snacks (energy bars, banana, gels)
  • Mirror & Flashing lights (Recommended)
  • Emergency (ICE) contact info
  • Band-aids & gloves for repairs (Optional)

Understanding Ride Pace

Unless otherwise stated, SMBC ride paces refer to Cruising Speed.

Cruising Speed

The speed range you will maintain on a flat road with no wind. The first number is the minimum; the second is the maximum. Note: A strong tailwind may naturally increase this pace!

Average Speed

The final average for the entire ride. Your instantaneous speed may fluctuate higher or lower, but the final trip computer average should fall within this posted range.

Important Rules of the SMBC Road

We pride ourselves on being predictable and legal. This means we signal at all turns and stop at all stoplights and stop signs. Safety is our priority.

Know the Law: Familiarize yourself with Florida Bicycle Traffic Laws to ensure you are riding legally.
