SMBC Safety Guidelines

Essential tips for keeping our rides safe and predictable.

🚦 Yellow Light Protocol

Lead riders should assess the light. If it turns yellow, stop if safe. If you cannot stop safely, proceed and announce "Rolling through!" to the group.

📢 Call it Out

Always announce hazards like "Pothole!", "Gravel!", or "Glass!" clearly. Use hand signals to point toward the hazard for those behind you.

🚲 Ride Predictably

Avoid sudden braking or swerving. Maintain a steady line and constant speed to ensure the safety of the riders drafting behind you.

🛑 Full Stops

At stop signs, the lead rider calls "Slowing" then "Stopping." Do not cross until the lead rider confirms it is clear for the group.

🛡️ Helmet & Gear

Helmets are mandatory on all SMBC rides. Ensure your tires are inflated and your brakes are checked before every club ride.

🚴 Passing Protocol

Always pass on the left. Announce "On your left!" loudly and clearly well before you reach the rider ahead of you.
